Coltene's HyFlex™ CM NiTi rotary files feature the Controlled Memory (CM) effect to respect the anatomy of the root canal and reduce the risk of creating steps, ledges, or perforations. These files are highly resistant to fracture and regain their shape after sterilization. They are available in the Hyflex CM and Hyflex EDM models.
Hyflex CM files are extremely flexible and do not have the shape memory of conventional files. This allows the file to follow the canal's anatomy. They can be pre-curved, similar to stainless steel files, to avoid steps in highly curved canals. These files are 300% stronger than conventional NiTi files.
Hyflex EDM files have the same advantages as CM files and also feature entirely new properties thanks to their EDM manufacturing process. This innovative exclusive process, in which the crystallographic phase transitions from austenite to martensite at room temperature, makes them stronger, more flexible, and more resistant to breakage. This reduces the number of files needed for cleaning and shaping the root canal without jeopardizing its anatomy. Tests conducted so far demonstrate that Hyflex EDM files are up to 700% more resistant to breakage than conventional NiTi files.
Fracture resistance verification through visual inspection:
HyFlex files have integrated shape memory and alleviate stress during preparation by changing their shape in a spiral. They regain their shape after heat treatment. With regular autoclaving, the files restore their original shape and fatigue resistance.
If the file does not regain its shape after autoclaving, it undergoes plastic deformation, and its use is not recommended to avoid the risk of breakage.
This visual inspection increases the number of uses of files compared to other NiTi systems.
They are available in boxes of 6 units and in lengths of 21, 25, and 31 mm.
